One of my favorite places on our college campus is easy to overlook. Especially if you’re hurrying from one place to the next or looking down at your phone instead of up at the world around you.
It’s just a small pond.
A few weeks ago a water lily bloomed, and I stopped to admire it. This week it bloomed again, and somehow the color seemed even more vibrant.
So I wandered over with my phone.
I crouched near the water, moving from one angle to another, watching the light change across the petals.
Blue dragonflies darted around the pond, never staying still for long.
Then another caught my eye.
A deep orange dragonfly, perched on a stick. π§‘
For a few quiet minutes there was only water, light, flowers, dragonflies, and the simple joy of paying attention.
It reminded me how much beauty quietly exists around us every single day.
Not hidden.
Just unnoticed.
Wonder isn’t always found in spectacular places.
Sometimes it is waiting beside a small campus pond, only a short walk from my office.
Sometimes all it asks is that we slow down long enough to look.
