Wonder Spotting is the practice of noticing.

I’ve been doing some version of this for as long as I can remember.

I have always been attuned to nature, color, art and music. Around 2007, I even started a blog called Notice the Little Things. I took photographs. I wrote about what caught my attention. I followed rabbit holes. I stopped to look closer.

More recently, I discovered artist and author Andrea Scher’s book Wonder Seeker and learned that she also offered a Wonder Spotting course. I found a kindred spirit in Andrea and enjoyed the space she hosted, where those of us participating shared our collected moments of “beauty, goodness & delight.”

The words truly resonated with me because the practice already felt so familiar.

Over the years, I’ve come to think of wonder as something even broader. Sometimes it really is a field of sunflowers or a bee tucked into the center of a flower. But sometimes it’s a song that stops me in my tracks, something ridiculous that makes me laugh, an unexpected connection between people, a strange little discovery, a question that sends me digging, a serendipitous experience, or an ordinary moment that suddenly doesn’t feel ordinary at all.

Wonder doesn’t have to be grand.  It can be found in the simplest of things.

We just have to notice.

Look closer.
